Cranking up the heat in Fleet: Vince Piercy & his custom Manhattan Curve Whirlpool & Airspa Bath
The idea that Fleet in Hampshire could be at the cutting edge of whirlpool bath technology might seem unlikely to some, but after visiting retired communications and networks consultant, Vince Piercy and his custom-made Manhattan ‘Curve’ Whirlpool and Airspa Bath, Luna Spas can confirm that Fleet is well and truly on the map.
Getting inspiration from stays in luxury hotels, recently-retired Vince decided that the time was right to install a state-of-the-art whirlpool bath in his bathroom at home. A keen golfer and cyclist, Vince felt that nothing could help him unwind better and set on a quest to get exactly the right bath for himself. Having decided to convert his downstairs shower room into his main bathroom and at-home oasis, he was very sure from the start that he required something special.
“I measured out the area for the bath and filled the space with cardboard boxes,” explained Vince. “I left them there for 2-3 weeks just to see if i could live with a bath that was 1900mm x 900mm and after a while I decided that I could!”
Clearly there was going to be some customisation involved, but trips to high street stockists like B&Q and Homebase, and other competitors in Leeds and Birmingham, showed that getting something out of the ordinary was not going to be easy and Vince found the situation quite frustrating.
“The specification of the competitors’ baths were not particularly great. The manufacturers were inflexible and were pretty rigid in what they offered.” He continued, “I found Luna Spas offered higher specification baths than the competitors and yet the prices were very comparable.”
But the factor most important in convincing Vince to take his business to Luna Spas was the amount of flexibility and customisation they offered. Luna and Aquastream Whirlpools (the company that manufacturers Luna’s baths) worked closely together (as they always do) to enable Vince to really get to the nitty gritty of what he wanted.

Because of this excellent working relationship between the two companies, Vince was invited up to the manufacturing warehouse to see a range of options on test. “They were so helpful,” enthused Vince. “If they could have offered me a cup of tea down the phone, then they would have done!”
During the trip to the warehouse, it became clear that whatever was technically possible to do, Vince was free to have it incorporated into his bath.
“The visit was absolutely superb and being made aware of the amount of customisation available really sold it to me.”
After the visit, Vince was able to draft up his own diagrams to specify exactly what he wanted and eventually settled on 13 floor jets at each end, an LED light string option, a 3-speed pump and controls where he wanted them. Photos were exchanged throughout the manufacturing process which kept Vince abreast of the situation and he was able to interject with any changes as necessary.
“I was very impressed with the communication between Luna Spas and their manufacturers, Aquastream Whirlpools. Both companies were very pleasant to deal with. They stuck to the price they quoted, they contacted me when they said they were going to and even the delivery schedule was agreed upon and kept to, with everything arriving at once. And the fact I was actually able to meet the guy making my bath was superb!”
Vince is incredibly happy with his custom-made bath and likes taking a regular soak with his aromatherapy oils and iPod on full blast. “The Seduction Oil is still a bit full for my liking, but I’m working on that!” he says slyly.
