The best way to refresh your bathroom space

The best way to refresh your bathroom space

By Benjamin Clarke | Published on 14th August 2018

When it comes to bathrooms, it can be hard to find the balance between appropriate practicality and the look of luxury we desire; the functionality needed for the morning rush of tired bodies and the transformation into a calming sanctuary at the end of a long, stressful day. The prospect of re-doing a bathroom may seem a little daunting but rest assured it will probably be a lot easier than you might first think. Some things to think about are
  • Colour
  • Storage
  • Luxury
With a few simple changes you can see your bathroom metamorphose into a commodious and welcoming space. Bathrooms are usually compromised space-wise in order to allow more area for other rooms and, unless you’re planning on tearing the house apart, adding more square footage is pretty much out of the question. The solution to this is creating the illusion of space – and an easy place to start is with the colour scheme.

Colour

By introducing a monochromatic theme to the room, everything can seem immediately much more organised and neat. Too much in the way of colour can seem a bit messy and clashing, but that doesn’t mean you should stray away from it completely – try adding a splash of colour with some bright towels on the towel rail, some candles, or even a pastel feature wall.

Storage

Visual clutter is something that can make a room appear to be so much smaller than what it is. Things like shampoo bottles, shower gels and toilet rolls don’t need to be on display and having them out and about leads to unnecessary mess. Simple storage solutions can create such a turn around and leave you with a more expanse and less confusion. Something like a cloakroom cabinet and sink is a perfect fix. A hinged door allows you to hide away toiletries and wares and an open shelf leaves space for a nice spot of decoration (perhaps one of those ‘splashes’) – a charming combination of simplistic functionality and style. Teamed with a sleek mirror cabinet, you can already imagine the mass of brushes, pastes and lotions disappearing behind a handy mirror – leaving a clear space to clear your head before the day begins. When pushed for room, thinking tall and thin can be a real space-saver. A well-shaped cabinet would be great along side the shower or bath to hold things like shampoo and shower gel, allowing them to be close to hand and easy to get to.

Luxury

While most of the things covered here have been as much about style as function, if you have the money then why not splash out on something just for the sake of looking great? This Luna Iris Tranquility Pool oozes opulence. With its smooth, graceful curves, classic styling and powerful jets, you can picture yourself slipping into the hot water – washing away daily stresses and allowing yourself a moment of serenity. A toilet doesn’t just have to be a toilet, it can be as much a part of the décor as you want it to be. If you're in the mood, then it's perfectly possible to get a stunning throne style toilet, adding a real touch of elegance to proceedings. Shifting from necessity to luxury can be hard at times but wit some simple additions you can make transition that little bit easier! Don’t be put off by the initial idea of changing things around because, as you can see, you can make a difference with something as small as a colour change. Stick with simplicity, clear the clutter and allow room for the nicer pieces that can turn your bathroom into something more.
